Adrift: Surrealist Photomontage by Greg Dohler

Adrift: Surrealist Photomontage by Greg Dohler

FULL CIRCLE GALLERY is pleased to present Adrift: Surrealistic Photomontage, an
exhibition featuring the work of local photographer Greg Dohler. Dohler’s photomontages
are inspired by the curious connections made in the unconscious mind, when random
memories are free to merge and form introspective vignettes. Isolating and juxtaposing
sections of his original photographs of desolate landscapes, decaying objects, animals,
and people on the street, Greg creates dreamlike landscapes. He also incorporates
elements from vintage snapshots. The people in his imagined landscapes appear to be
lost in thought, or disoriented, as though they are trying to understand the disorder
around them. The natural elements serve as an ever-present reality of the cycle of life.
The works ultimately attempt to find acceptance and beauty in the impermanence of all
things.

Greg Dohler is a fourth-generation Baltimorean and longtime professional photographer.
He worked for 25 years as a staff photojournalist and photo editor for newspapers
throughout Maryland. In 2015, Greg switched to freelancing full time for commercial and
editorial clients. He began taking photos in the 1980s while working on the independently
produced horror and science fiction movies made by his late father, Don Dohler.
