About the Juror

Ching Yuan Chang is a contemporary ceramic artist and professor at Tainan National University of the Arts. Early in his career, he studied under Japanese master Lin Baojia and later attended the Rochester Institute of Technology’s School for American Crafts, where Western education enriched his creative approach. Working primarily with clay, Chang applies lacquerware-inspired layering techniques to reveal the material’s inherent color, texture, and form. His work engages with Taiwan’s cultural diversity while exploring personal and collective identity, reflecting contemporary aesthetic and social concerns.

Chang has exhibited widely in Taiwan and internationally, receiving awards such as the Japan Contemporary Craft Special Award and “Individual Artists Grant in the Visual Arts” Maryland State Art, Council, Baltimore, MD. His works are held in major collections worldwide, including the Victoria and Albert Museum (UK), Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park (Japan), Kanazawa Ohri Art Museum (Japan), National Art Gallery (Malaysia), and Yingge Ceramics Museum (Taiwan). Through his practice, Chang has elevated Taiwanese ceramics from craft to art, establishing their presence in the global art scene.
