National Aquarium Lecture Series Features Special Children's Program with Author Twig C. George

(Baltimore) – The National Aquarium’s 2014 Marjorie Lynn Bank Lecture Series will feature a special program for children and families with local author Twig George at its Oct. 19 lecture event, “The Tale of the Ice Whale.”

Twig George is the daughter of Newberry award-winner Jean Craighead George, who wrote more than 100 books about nature and animals for children. Craighead George’s last novel Ice Whale, which was completed with the help of her children following her death, chronicles a mystical relationship between a young Eskimo boy and the rare bowhead whales living in Alaskan waters.

National Aquarium guests are invited to enjoy family-friendly continental breakfast while listening to George share the story behind the book and the unique species it features.

George is the author of such children’s books as A Dolphin Named Bob, Swimming With Sharks and Jellies: The Life of Jellyfish, and is currently a librarian at The Park School.

The National Aquarium is proud to partner with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation (NMSF) to offer a glimpse into contemporary ocean issues in this exciting yearlong lecture series.
