Maryland Winds - Legends: Music of Legendary Composers

Maryland Winds - Legends: Music of Legendary Composers

Maryland Winds kicks off our 2025-2026 season with music from legendary composers - both new and old. From America's March King, John Philip Sousa, to the Dean of American composers, Aaron Copland, this program runs the gamut of the compositional word. The lynchpin selection of the program is Vittorio Giannini's exciting Symphony #3. Other legendary composers include Elgar and Respighi, and stars of today: Stamp, Giroux, and the talented US Navy Musician Brian Sadler.

Maryland Winds is an ensemble of professional musicians in the greater Baltimore–Washington, DC, area. Most are current or past performers with the premier military bands, in major symphony orchestras, or as freelancers. Many are also active music educators in schools and private studios.

Time Unfolding For Alto Saxophone and Wind Ensemble composed by Alexandra Gardner alto saxophone soloist: Doug O’Connor Maryland Winds conducted by Timothy Holtan Time Unfolding is a new work for alto saxophone and wind ensemble inspired by the recent captivating images of galaxy and star formation from NASA’s James Webb Telescope. The composition explores the profound implications of the nature of time as we consider that the images, captured using infrared light, traveled billions of light years and provide glimpses into the early stages of the universe.
