Giselle

Mid Atlantic Youth Ballet presents Giselle. A classic ballet which tells the tragic love story of a peasant girl who falls in love with a disguised nobleman, Albrecht. But Albrecht is already betrothed to another woman. Hilarion, a young man in the same village is also in love with Giselle and reveals Albrecht's deception. When Giselle learns of Albrecht's deception, she is heartbroken and begins to dance wildly causing her weak heart to give out.
Late one night, Hilarion mourns at Giselle's forest grave, but is frightened away by the arrival of the Wilis, the ghostly spirits of maidens betrayed by their lovers. Lead by their queen, Myrta, the Wilis rouse Giselle's spirit from her grave and induct her into their clan before disappearing into the forest. The Wilis dance and haunt the forest at night to exact their revenge on any man they encounter, regardless of who he may be, forcing their victims to dance until they die of exhaustion. Albrecht arrives to lay flowers on Giselle's grave and weeps with guilt over her death. Her spirit appears and he begs her forgiveness. Because of her love, Giselle forgives him. The power of Giselle's love counters the Wilis' magic and spares his life.
