Embrace Spontaneity: an Intro to Improv

Embrace Spontaneity: an Intro to Improv

Join our 2-hour in-person workshop, "Embrace Spontaneity: Intro to Improv." It's a low-pressure, fun experience designed for newcomers. Connect with others through introductions, establish boundaries, and engage in energizing warmups, games, and collaborative scenes.

Get ready to embark on a low-pressure, fun-filled adventure that will unleash your creativity, boost your confidence, and ignite your sense of playfulness.

Led by our experienced and supportive instructors, this workshop is tailored to provide a safe and welcoming environment where you can step outside your comfort zone. We'll begin with a boundary check-in, where we establish guidelines for respect, trust, and collaboration. Then we'll dive into engaging improv warmups and games, designed to ignite your imagination, enhance your listening skills, and unlock your spontaneity.

Through interactive exercises and guided scenework, you'll discover the joy of working together, building on each other's ideas, and creating compelling scenes on the spot.

No prior experience in acting or improv is necessary. This workshop is specifically designed for individuals who are new to improv. Whether you're seeking a fun and unique experience, a chance to improve your communication skills, or simply a break from everyday routine, "Embrace Spontaneity" is the workshop for you!

About your instructors:

Millie Hoffman (she/her) has been taking improv classes and performing since 2018. She performs regularly with Babeprov, David Bowie Improv, and a variety of special projects. An elementary school teacher by day, she’s enthusiastic about bringing the joy of ‘play’ to all!

Allison Hopper (she/her) is more Ernie than Bert. She’s a transplant from NYC to Baltimore, tutors dyslexic kids (www.papermoontutors.com), and has a pug dog named Ponyo. She does improv through BIG and Highwire and would like to start a “slow improv” team for people (like herself) who get sensory overload. Maybe called Snail-prov? Snails are her spirit animal! She listens to lots of audiobooks and loves being a book concierge and recommending books. If you’re looking for a new book to read, hit her up! You can see Allison perform with teams Salty Tomatoes and Law & Order: SIU.

About Highwire Improv:

Highwire Improv is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization based in Baltimore, Maryland. Our mission is to steward a community of artists committed to growth, collaboration, joy, and justice — in Baltimore and around the world — through improvisational theater.
