Rumba Club: Dance at the Gym

Annapolis Jazz & Roots is excited to bring Rumba Club to Pip Moyer Recreation Center on Saturday, November 9 from 3- 5 PM. Whether you love listening or dancing to Latin Jazz and Salsa, you won't want to miss this free event.

Hugely popular for more than three decades, this East Coast ensemble has performed, recorded and toured extensively with jazz and Latin greats such as Tito Puente, Lionel Hampton and Monguito Santamaria. Each of their four recordings on the prestigious Palmetto record label, was produced by late Latin Jazz luminary, Andy Gonzalez of Fort Apache Band fame. Their work has been lauded in international press such as DownBeat, Jazz Times, Washington Post, Latin Beat and La Press.

Their recordings are heard around the world on SiriusXM radio and other satellite and conventional radio stations, and the band was chosen best Latin Music Group by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) 15 times. They have graced the stages of countless clubs such as Blue Note and Birdland in NYC and appeared at major jazz festivals in the US. and Canada.

In June 2022, Rumba Club released a new double recording: Legacy and The Art of the Bolero. The music is available for streaming and downloading from all popular retailers. The new recording features “O Casi,” a tribute to U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and “AEI,” an anthem of inclusion and diversity, sung by children in the language of Esperanto.

The band continues to forge its own synthesis of Latin Jazz and dance music described as “a style of their own making.” Join us for what Latin Beat magazine has called "the finest dancing and listening music possible." Please consider making a donation to help fund this free event. Thank you!
