Bach at St. Bartholomew's: Goldberg Variations
The second of two concerts featuring keyboard music from the massive and diverse corpus of J.S. Bach. This annual concert series, now in its 17th year, is performed by Ted Davis on his own William Mitchell double harpsichord.
"Golden Bach" features one of the most celebrated works in music history, the monumental "Goldberg" variations. The work, first published as Clavierübung IV, has long been recognized as a towering achievement and a shining example of Bach's creativity.
An informal pre-concert talk, "Bach, the musical iron chef", begins at 3:45 (with wine and seltzer served) and a reception follows. Admission is free, donations, gratefully accepted, will benefit music events at St. Bartholomew's and the parish outreach fund.
