Opera Henriette, a new Baltimore-based professional Concert Baroque Opera group presents a live performance of a work that was groundbreaking in the infancy of musical theatre in the English-speaking world and that has left an indelible impression on much of the musical theatre world ever since.
Composed in 1717, at a time that the composer’s star was rising dramatically, Acis and Galatea is G.F. Handel’s first opera in English and regarded by historians as a landmark work from opera’s early years. It is based on an ancient Roman mythological tale of the bliss of young love and tragedy borne of jealousy.
