Poetry in Song: Andrew Sauvageau and Hui-Chuan Chen

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of poetry set to music with “Poetry in Song,” a captivating concert featuring the extraordinary talents of tenor Andrew Sauvageau and pianist Hui-Chuan Chen. Prepare to be transported to a realm where words and melodies intertwine, as these exceptional musicians bring to life poetic compositions by Robert Schumann and Gustav Mahler.

The concert opens with Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe, Op. 48, composed in 1840. Experience the emotional depth and lyrical beauty of Schumann’s renowned song cycle that weaves a tapestry of love, longing, and introspection.

Continuing the poetic journey, Sauvageau and Chen delve into Gustav Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder, composed between 1901 and 1902. Mahler’s deep sensitivity and profound musicality shine through in these songs, as he sets the heartfelt poetry of Friedrich Rückert to music.

Praised for the shining color in his voice, the spark and nuance of his acting, and for his contained ferocity in concert, Andrew Sauvageau brings his energy to the stage, both in operatic and in concert settings. His solo engagements include the BBC Symphony Orchestra in the UK premiere of Louis Andriessen’s La Commedia.
