From the playwright:
"This is a play about fire, about how fire comes into our lives and rearranges what we thought was important; it restructures what we thought we knew. Fire comes and is burned into our memories, our beings, and our bones.
The women in this play know what it means to run from fire; they know what it means to carry it in their bones, in their dreams; this is a play about fire and the women who live with it. This is a play about a line of black women who have built protection and prevention from fire into the very bones of their existence; this is a play about how none of that helps.
The fire they run from, the fire they seek protection from, isn’t to be outrun or avoided or hid from; the fire they seek protection from can only be survived over
and
over and
over and
over again.
This is a play about how fire seeks to consume these women; this is a play about how each woman survives."
