Community reading: Commemorating Juneteenth

Community reading: Commemorating Juneteenth

Juneteenth dates back to 1865, and is the oldest national celebration commemorating the end of slavery within the U.S.

This June, the Jewish Museum of Maryland, in collaboration with arts and cultural organizations across Baltimore, will come together for a community reading of selections from Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America, 1619 to 2019 (Kendi & Blain, eds, 2021).

During the event we will deepen our understanding of the history of the holiday and explore its immense, contemporary significance.
