Strata — Concert Two

Strata — Concert Two

UMBC's Department of Music presents the Strata ensemble in the second of two performances, featuring works by UMBC student composers. (The first performance on April 8 features works by Béla Bartók, Carl Reinecke, Rebecca Clarke, and John Hedges.)

Praised by The Washington Post for programs conceived as artfully as its performances, Strata (Nathan Williams, clarinet; James Stern, violin/viola; and Audrey Andrist, piano) presents a wide spectrum of traditional and modern repertoire in trio, solo, and duo combinations (from which comes the idea of adding and removing layers, or strata, of sound). Performances include New York’s Merkin Hall, the Maverick Concerts and Berkeley Chamber Performances, among many others. With thirteen new works composed especially for the trio, and a strong commitment to community outreach, Strata is one of North America’s most sought-after ensembles.
