Swing Set Celebrates Mother's Day

Swing Set Celebrates Mother's Day

Swing Set is celebrating Mother's Day in style, bringing a lively, modern take on the music of the '30s and '40s, as well as musical excursions to Italy, France, and Argentina. Mandolinist Joel Michael-Schwartz and his guests, Shurmi Dar (vocals) and Todd Shelar (guitar), have a special program of beloved classics and little known gems, each chosen to celebrate mom. Enjoy Germano's wonderful brunch at the Cabaret while some of Baltimore's best bring in their favorite tunes.

Swing Set is a quirky, eclectic collaboration headed by mandolinist Joel Michael-Schwartz. Moving fluidly between swing, bebop, latin jazz, and jazz manouche, their performances are intimate, witty, and unpredictable. Every member is a virtuoso performer in their own right, and the mark of their shows are fresh, energetic arrangements broken up by fiery improvisation.

Shurmi Dhar is a Baltimore based vocalist with a degree in voice performance from the Peabody Conservatory. She has interpreted a wide selection of repertoire by composers ranging from Mozart, to Erik Satie, to Errollyn Wallen. While Shurmi’s main basis of vocal training is in classical voice, she performs many different styles including jazz, pop, and musical theater and performs jazz standards at a number of venues in the Baltimore/DC areas.
