spell #7 by Ntozake Shange, the award-winning playwright of for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf, offers the audience a front row seat to the experience of actors, musicians, and performers as they express the difficulties they face as Black artists having to “wear the mask.” Through dance, music and other forms of dramatic expression, the characters liberate themselves from the history of racism in theatre and learn to be “colored and love it.” (some mature language)
