Festival Baltimore Concert 6: From Baroque to Galant Style: Variations, Sonatas and Sonatinas

Award-winning pianist Maria Sumareva presents an exciting musical journey showing the development and changes happening in the musical styles from Baroque to Galant periods. She will provide brief remarks on the various manifestation of variation across genres and time, and the key differences between Baroque, Galant and Empfindsamer styles.

The program will feature:

C.P.E. Bach: Sonata Wq. 48 No. 4 in C minor (from the “Six Prussian Sonatas”)

J.A. Benda: Sonatina No. 4 in C major (variation)

J.A. Benda: Sonatina No. 9 in F major (variation-minuet)

J.A. Benda: Sonatina No. 2 in F major

C.P.E. Bach: Sonata Wq. 50 No. 1 in F major (From “Six Sonatas with Varied Reprises”)

J.A. Benda: Sonatina major no . 7 in B flat major

J.A. Benda: Sonatina no. 33 in F major

J.A. Benda: Sonatina no. 6 in D minor

J.A. Benda: Sonatina no. 3 in A minor

J.A. Benda: Sonatina no. 26 in C major

J.A. Benda: Sonata no. 2 in C minor (Sammlung, book 1)

J.A. Benda: Sonatina no. 13 in C minor

J.A. Benda: Sonatina no. 14 in A major

J.A. Benda: Sonatina no. 15 in B flat major

J.A. Benda: Sonatina no. 16 in G minor

J.S. Bach/J. Brahms: Chaconne from Violin Partita No. 2 in D minor BWV 1004 (J. Brahms: Etude no. 5 for left hand alone)

Admission: $30 general, $15 for UMBC faculty and staff, free for UMBC students, and free for 18 and under. Tickets are available through Festival Baltimore here. Subscription packages to the entire Festival Baltimore series are also available.

UMBC is located about 10 minutes south of the Inner Harbor along I-95. For this event, free visitor parking is available in Lot 8, directly adjacent to the Performing Arts and Humanities Building, where Linehan Concert Hall is located — please see here for additional information.
