Native Voices: New England Tribal Families Exhibit Opening Celebration

Native Voices: New England Tribal Families Exhibit Opening Celebration

Join Port Discovery for the grand opening of our temporary Native Voices: New England Tribal Families exhibit, where children and families will learn about native communities around New England today by exploring a native school, museum, Pow Wow, artist's workshop, and grandma's kitchen. Visitors can Toboggan down a hill in Maine, explore a cranberry bog on Martha’s Vineyard, learn about daily life at the Nuweetooun Tribal School, and more!

Our opening celebration will feature special performances and demonstrations from representatives of Maryland Native American tribes. Plus, join in activities designed to teach visitors about American Indian culture and traditions. Create pinch pots using clay such as traditionally used for pottery, try your hand at making birch bark containers (makuks) used for storing sugar collected as maple sap, try your hand at uncovering cultural materials from the past in our “Dig It!” activity, and learn about the unique way of representing ideas without words or letters with pictographs!
