Open Studio Tour Kickoff Reception

Open Studio Tour Kickoff Reception

To kickoff the weekend of School 33 Art Center's Open Studiop Tour, the Youth Resiliency Institute will host a free artist reception and panel discussion on Friday, October 6th at 6pm at the Cherry Hill Community Center. Visitors will be invited to meet with Cherry Hill's artists during the reception, whose work will be activated through the construction of a Cherry Hill Mbari House that will celebrate the life of late Cherry Hill artist Angelo Dangerfield. Event attendees will be invited to enter the Cherry Hill Mbari House and experience Angelo's art as well as art made by Cherry Hill artists celebrating his life, and watch a film focusing on Angelo's legacy. Event attendees will be treated to a sampling of West African cuisine and other light refreshments, as well as music by Abu the Flutemaker!

Immediately following the reception, there will be a cross generational panel discussion, moderated by the Youth Resiliency Institute executive director and artist Fanon Hill. Panelists will include poet-playwright Shirley Foulks, artist and lifelong Cherry Hill resident Tommy Bethea, and youth leader/music producer Marquis "Mighty Mark" Gaskins. The panel will be moderated by Youth Resiliency Institute co-founder Fanon Hill, whose groundbreaking 2016 documentary Lom Nava Love focuses on the life of panelist Shirley Foulks.
