Tom Lewis

Opening act - Lulu's Fate

We are pleased to announce a great concert featuring Tom Lewis.
If you like songs and stories of the sea, new and old, you'll certainly enjoy Tom's singing and his stories.

Tom is a 24-year veteran of Her Majesty's Royal Naval diesel submarines, although now he's comfortably located on dry land. His songs cover a wide range of nautical topics, from life on board H.M. ships, to the loneliness and lure of the sea, as well as traditional chanteys and classic nautical poetry, set to his own, and others' melodies.

Whether he is singing a capella or accompanying himself with button accordion or ukulele, you will truly enjoy Tom’s performance!
As winner of the inaugural "Trophée Stan Hugill", French fans dub Tom "The Springsteen of Sea Chanteys". Old Songs Festival (Altamont NY) declares "This man knows the sea ... from the bottom up!", while Living Tradition (UK) says "Although I always knew he was good, I was not quite prepared for HOW good." 24 years in the British Royal Navy, "provides him with that vitally authentic stance with which to tackle nautical song".

Tom's repertoire—from traditional chanteys to songs fashioned from his own seafaring background—recruits his audience for a voyage by turns reflective, dramatic and humorous. Born in Northern Ireland, Tom's Celtic heritage is obvious in his clear, strong voice, evoking quiet sorrow for a fisherman lost to the sea just as honestly as it powers out a chantey "to be heard above the gales."

With songs that have become folk standards, known and sung wherever great choruses ring out, Tom accompanies himself on button accordion and ukulele—but it's that powerful vocal style and infectious humor—that quality of entertaining—which keeps audiences coming back again ... and again.

We are very excited to welcome Tom Lewis back to Baltimore after a long absence!
