Karter Jaymes +Samuel James

Karter Jaymes +Samuel James

Prepare for an intimate night of soulful singing, moving acoustic guitar, blues roots, and lively storytelling from two unique singer/songwriters.

Grammy-nominated Baltimore native Karter Jaymes is living out his second remarkable musical life. His first was as the main drummer and frequent co-songwriter for R&B legend Teddy Pendergrass. A picture of Karter on stage with Pendergrass and Stevie Wonder is a precious reminder of that time. His songs have been covered and sampled by the likes of contemporary R&B star Jaheim, hip hop legends De La Soul and producer Jermaine Dupri. These days he graces the stage with acoustic guitar in hand, using his smooth yet gritty voice to sing original songs bursting with melody, imagery, and wisdom. Karter’s warm, conversational stage style and first-class mix of soul, blues and folk make him a can’t-miss solo act.

Creative Alliance is proud host the Baltimore debut of Samuel James. Though Samuel has strong family roots in American Roots music, he is no relic. Over the course of a set, audiences may hear a stark cover of Delta blues legend Skip James, a raw version of a Leonard Cohen number, or a humorous, poignant original song. All of it bares the stamp of a unique artist using the past to speak to the present. The Portland, Maine native’s gravel voice, award-winning songwriting and distinctive guitar mastery has wowed audiences the world over. His critically acclaimed trilogy of albums, Songs Famed for Sorrow and Joy (2008), For Rosa, Maeve and Noreen (2009), and And for the Dark Road Ahead (2012) has gained James praise not only for carrying on great traditions, but for being an innovator as well.
