Pro Musica Rara concert, "Bach in Berlin"
Bach in Berlin. Johann Sebastian Bach, Cello Suite no. 2 in D Minor, and Ricercar a 3 from the Musical Offering; Flute sonatas by J.J. Quantz and C.P.E. Bach; and a rare work by Christoph Schaffrath. Bach visited the court of Frederick the Great in 1747 in Potsdam and Berlin. The other composers on the program were active in Berlin during J.S. Bach’s lifetime; Quantz and C.P.E. Bach were on Fredrick’s staff, and Schaffrath worked for Frederick and his sister Amalia.
There is a free, pre-concert lecture at 2:30 pm.
