You are cleared for takeoff! Grab the controls of an R/C plane and take to the skies above Southwest Area Park at the FREE Charm City Fly In - the largest celebration of radio controlled flying in Maryland.

The model aviators of the Southwest Area Park (SWAP) Modelers will teach you the finer points of flying. You’ll be at the controls, watching your plane hundreds of feet in the air with your instructor/co-pilot ready to rescue you if your flight encounters turbulence.

When they’re not helping newbies avoid crash landings, the SWAP modelers will be showing off their stunning, finely tuned acrobatic machines powered by jet engines, propellers and physics – more than 30 aircraft at speeds up to 200mph.

In between flights, keep a lookout for the R/C helicopter making candy drops from the sky.

The Fly-In will include delicious grilled foods, cold beverages and a raffle for an R/C plane. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own food and refreshments.

The event is the perfect introduction to model aviation. Learn the basics, get advice and follow the law - the SWAP Modelers will teach you how to have a blast without being grounded by the FAA!
