A beer garden, a fashion show, one-of-a-kind finds and performing bands all day long are among the highlights of one of Baltimore’s favorite events: The Annual Mt Washington Village Fall Block Party, scheduled this year for Sunday, October 16, 2016, from 12:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, October 23, 2016. Pro Musica Rara presents the music of Boccherini, Haydn, Ignaz Pleyel, and Luigi Tommasini -- the Friends and Rivals of the title. Performing are returning guest artist Kenneth Slowick on fortepiano and baryton (an early viol-like instrument); and PMR core musicians Cynthia Roberts on violin, and artistic director Allan Whear on cello. There is a free, pre-concert lecture at 2:30, and a free, meet-the-musicians reception afterward.

The St. David’s Recital and Evensong series continues on October 16 with a pre-service recital featuring pianist Sungpil Kim. A doctoral candidate at the Peabody Conservatory, Mr. Kim has been praised by International Piano Magazine for performances infused with “magic in atmosphere, individuality, and poise,” and has appeared as soloist with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Yamaha Rising Artist Series in Seoul, and at the Queen Elizabeth Competition. For this recital, Mr. Kim will present the first movement of Franz Schubert’s Piano Sonata No. 21 in B-flat Major, D.
Singer Julie Kurzava is joined again at Germano’s Cabaret by pianist Diane Kinsley, performing vibrant songs of unreasonable, inexplicable longing and love by new American masters Ricky Ian Gordon, Adam Guettel, Stephen Sondheim, Jake Heggie and more. Join them and experience songs whose beauty, clarity, and nuance will touch, refresh and embolden the spirit.

Sound Off Live!, Baltimore’s “Battle of the Bands” returns to showcase emerging bands from the Delaware, Maryland and Virginia region on Wednesday, October 19 and Thursday, October 20 from 6-10pm at the Hard Rock Café in Baltimore. The winning bands selected from Sound Off Live! will perform at Light City Baltimore, (March 31-April 8, 2017) Artscape, (July 21-23, 2017) or the Baltimore Book Festival (September 22-24, 2017).
Join the museum for the soulful sounds of R&B and jazz songstress Nia Simmons. Ms. Simmons has been touring with R&B / gospel star Regina Belle as a part of the Phaze II Jazz Band. This talented Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award grantee recently released her highly anticipated solo project "A Songbird’s Journey." The concert is a part of the museum's Third Thursday series. On the third Thursday of the month, enjoy late night admission to the galleries until 8pm and a live show.
