A free workshop for any and all artists. Dance Exchange Artistic Director, Cassie Meador, and Education Coordinator/Dancer, Matthew Cumbie, are creating a special workshop at UMBC’s new Performing Arts & Humanities building. Workshop hosted by Deep Vision Dance Company as part of the AKIMBO Uncoiled Project and presented in collaboration with UMBC.
This class is for first-time and seasoned tappers - all levels are welcome! Experienced tapper Batya Feldman will warm you up, lead ou through fun exercises, show you new moves, and teach you some choreography. You'll come away from this 2 hour sessions with a solid foundation in basic tap and some seriously fancy footwork to break out at your next cocktail party. Students without tap shoes are encouraged to wear sneakers instead.

The Collective Dance Company offers bi-weekly modern classes that are open to the public and geared toward the intermediate/advanced level dancer. Sunday morning classes are taught by a rotating schedule of guest teachers. Tuesday evening classes are taught by a rotating schedule of Collective members. What might a Jew sailing from America to explore Jewish life in Europe and the Middle East in the nineteenth century likely have discovered in his travels? In this talk, Prof. Daniel B. Schwartz (George Washington University) will follow on the heels of Mendes I. Cohen’s voyage to and through the “Old World,” leading the audience on a tour of some of the major sites visited by Cohen from 1829 to 1835, and providing a mini-history of Jewish society in an age poised between tradition and change.

Contemporary Arts Inc., in partnership with The Ward Center for the Arts, St. Paul’s School, presents The Carl Grubbs Jazz/String Ensemble in performance. Carl Grubbs, a recipient of a 2014 Ruby Artist Project Grant, has a distinguished career as an international recording artist, composer and educator. The Jazz/String ensemble will perform his original work The Inner Harbor Suite Revisited: A Tribute to Baltimore.
Music in the Valley brings world-class musicians to St. John’s Church. The concert series began in 2008 in partnership with Jonathan Carney, concertmaster of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, to fulfill a need for quality chamber music in this mostly rural area. Past performances have included classical music ensembles that have met with rave reviews. Each performance begins on a Sunday evening at 5:30 and is followed by a buffet/reception where concertgoers can mingle with the artists. Childcare will be available at the Rectory during concerts.
EMP Resident artists Noelle Tolbert, Alexander D’Agostino, and Porter Witsell form NAP, a performance trio investigating the intersections of dance, body movement, and performance art. Every Sunday, NAP will conduct open classes of Movement Research at EMP from 5:30 – 7:30PM. Classes are $5 each.
