Join us on Friday, May 5th at 6:30 for an artist talk with Devin N Morris about his solo exhibition In A Dignified Fashion, moderated by Baltimore's own, Jeffrey Kent.

Undergraduate TDPS Dance students present a concert of original choreography. The program includes new works created and/or performed by undergraduate students as they explore their choreographic voice and vision, plus pieces developed throughout the year by guest choreographers.

In its final performance of the season, UMSO features the music of 20th-century Eastern European composers. In Béla Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste, the ensemble divides antiphonally on stage and features an excerpt from the composer’s “Night Music,” which can be heard in the movie Being John Malkovich. The winning composition of the biennial WALSUM Competition for Composition at the UMD School of Music will also be premiered. UMSO gives the world premiere of a film by Doug Fitch to accompany Kodály’s Háry János Suite.
UMBC New Music Ensemble

The Department of Music presents the UMBC New Music Ensemble. The New Music Ensemble explores and performs Western chamber music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
Admission is free. Free parking is available immediately adjacent to the Performing Arts and Humanities Building in Lot 8.
With infectious Afro-pop grooves, lock-step dance moves, and vocal harmonies reminiscent of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, it is no wonder Mokoomba has been hailed as “quite simply the most impressive band Zimbabwe has produced in recent memory” by Afropop Worldwide’s Banning Eyre. The band’s unique mix of traditional Tonga, Luvale, & Nyanja rhythms combined with other pan-African music cultures and generous dashes of Rap, Ska, Soukous and Afro-Cuban music has gained worldwide attention.

Beloved storytelling nonprofit The Moth –its popular Moth Radio Hour is heard on 450+ public radio stations nationwide and podcast is downloaded 44 million times a year-- will present its first-ever Mainstage in Baltimore on Saturday, May 6th at the Baltimore Center Stage.
Hosted by CJ Hunt, a favorite on The Moth stage, the two-hour Baltimore show will feature five storytellers—including David Litt, R. Eric Thomas, and Jessica Lee Williamson—sharing true personal stories on the same theme. Doors open at 7PM; stories begin at 7:30PM.

UMD composition professor Robert Gibson’s masterful work for winds The Sound of Light connects with Joseph Schwantner’s Luminosity to illuminate the varied colors and sounds possible with the modern wind ensemble. Faculty soloist Mark Hill joins UMWO to perform the wind version of Lukas Foss’ Oboe Concerto.
Students from FIRST Robotics team “C Company” demonstrate their 2017 STEAMworks robot and chat about their experience. Cost is included with museum admission.

Beau Soir Trio (David Lonkevitch, flute, Jennifer Ries, viola, and Michelle Myers Lundy, harp) is a Washintongton DC-based ensemble that has perfomed at venues and acclaimed concert series in the DC and Baltimore area, including the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, since 2007. The trio won the 2014 Montpelier Arts Recital Competition.
Children’s Chorus of Maryland & School of Music (CCM) presents its 41st annual spring concert, Wayfaring, Whimsy & Wonder, on Sunday, May 7th, at 3 pm at Gordon Center for the Performing Arts in Owings Mills. This joyful celebration of spring will feature the whimsical works of Watson Henderson and Carter along with more traditional selections from Mozart and Schubert. Led by Artistic Director Susan Bialek, performances will include eastern Asian and Indian pieces by Ishimaru and Paranjoti.
