Manager of Individual Giving

The Manager of Individual Giving will advance the mission of the Walters by planning, organizing, and implementing strategies to increase the level of personal involvement and financial commitment of annual donors. This individual will have the unique opportunity to help execute a new membership program at the Walters with a focus on philanthropic support and engagement. Emphasis will be given on increasing the contribution levels of current supporters to the Walters as well as engagement and cultivation of new audiences.

Responsibilities include the following:

Annual giving program

  • Oversee the Walters annual giving program for gifts up to $5,000
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects and donors making annual gifts up to $5,000
  • With the Director of Individual Giving, execute new Walters’ membership program
  • Create and implement a strategy for individual outreach and prospect management to increase annual giving and develop a strong pipeline of donors
  • Establish metrics for measuring progress and implementing annual goals
  • With the Director of Individual Giving and the Development Manager, identify prospects with the capacity and inclination to make major gifts, including planned gifts
  • Work collaboratively with the Finance Department to set goals and reconcile monthly giving
  • As needed, facilitate donor stewardship with museum leadership including Executive Director and Development Committee Chair

Donor events and communication

  • Collaborate with the Manager of Special Events and Rentals to plan and execute donor cultivation events
  • Provide support for the Walters Gala and Party
  • Work with Marketing and Communications to coordinate projects and timeframes and ensure clear lines of communication regarding deliverables
  • Work with Art and Program to coordinate relevant programming for events

Donor Relations

  • Manage the Donor Relations Coordinator
  • Provide oversight and guidance on donor relations strategies for both Individual and Institutional Giving to sustain and increase donor engagement
  • With the Donor Relations Coordinator, provide oversight of the Art Museum Reciprocal Network
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of four years of front-line fundraising experience with a demonstrated history of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals
  • Experience with arts organizations a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the mechanics of fundraising from individuals, with experience in both membership and annual giving programs
  • Knowledge of best practices in fundraising; experience securing four-figure gifts preferred
  • Experience in supervising staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, budget, project and time management skills
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products, i.e. Word, Excel, including knowledge of computer-based development management tools such as Raiser’s Edge
  • Proven ability to work independently and a commitment to a collaborative approach to fundraising with a willingness to participate in activities and assignments that reflect the goals and mission of the Walters
  • A self-starter, attentive to details and possess the ability to work effectively with board level volunteers, donors, and prospects; confidentiality a must.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends
  • Local travel required
