In 1963, the famous New York painter Frank Stella traveled across Iran, seeking out the great monuments of Iran’s past along with curator Henry Geldzahler and art collectors Stanley and Shirley Woodward. Drawing on previously undiscovered documents from their trip, Dr. Sarah-Neel Smith, Assistant Professor of Art History, Theory, and Criticism at the Maryland Institute College of Art, investigates how Stella’s encounter with Iranian Islamic architecture impacted his abstract painting.
BSO Sessions episodes begin with a performance premiere at 8 pm, followed by on-demand access through June 2021 ($10 pay-per-view and $20 monthly all-access).
The Puppet 6-Pack is a brand new original collection of six short films produced by Baltimore-based artists, musicians, puppeteers, and writers. These puppet and animation-based musical masterpieces will be premiering on January 15th and 22nd both as a live-streamed premiere and then On-Demand. This is top quality content by and for fans of puppets, epic rock musicals, and hilarious visionary short films.

An overall view of the history of (Western) painting supports and their preparation. It would address some questions like why did painters switch from using wooden panels to canvas? Who made the supports- the artists or a commercial entity? Why were some supports prepared with dark red or black ground layers while others were prepared with white grounds? How did artists exploit the variable textures of their supports? What other supports were historically used besides wood and canvas? What were some not very suitable supports that have been used and how have they fared?
