“Remembrances” will feature readings presented by Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, with members of B’nai Israel: The Downtown Synagogue and representatives of Baltimore Refugee communities.
Former public defender James Forman, Jr. is a leading critic of mass incarceration and its disproportionate impact on people of color. Since 2011, Forman has taught constitutional law and a course called “Race, Class, and Punishment” at Yale Law School. A graduate of Brown University and Yale Law School, he worked as a law clerk for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. His book, Locking Up Our Own, was awarded the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in Nonfiction. HoCoPoLitSo’s guest for its annual Irish Evening is the award-winning poet Vona Groarke, recipient of the 2017 Hennessy Hall of Fame Award for Lifetime Achievement. Groarke’s most recent collection, Selected Poems, won the 2017 Pigott Prize for the best collection of poetry by an Irish poet. Noted as "brilliant and original" by the Irish Times, Groarke writes haunting and candidly sensual poems.
Celebrate African American History Month with God’s Trombones: Seven Negro Sermons in Verse by Harlem Renaissance poet James Weldon Johnson. Directed by Kwame Kenyatta Bey, this lyrical revision of Biblical tales stars local pastors and is a revelation for the whole family about the foundations behind the African American church. Sunday performances begin at 4pm.

Listen to the stories of Lindy and Jane, two 18th century women of Annapolis. Learn about their favorite folktales and how they got their names. Living history interpreter Scotti Preston will present the program and immerse participants in the traditions of storytelling. This program results in fufilling the "Scribe" badge for Girl Scouts.
