The Center for Innovation in Urban Education (CIUE) within the School of Education is presenting two events this spring as part of the Center’s Faculty Speaker Series.
Three faculty members and a principal will offer a panel, “Responding to the Call for Educational Justice: Catholic-led Initiatives in Urban Education,” on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, in McGuire Hall West from 6–7:45 p.m.
Pulitzer Prize winner Sam Shepard’s explosive play about sibling rivalry and human nature, True West examines the relationship between Austin, a screenwriter, and his older brother Lee. In the kitchen of their mother's home, the brothers find themselves forced to cooperate in the creation of a story that will make or break both their lives, each finding himself admitting that he had somehow always wished he were in the other's shoes.

Opening talk and reception for The Rosenburg—The Federal Ministry of Justice in the Shadow of the Nazi Past, a traveling multimedia exhibition organized by the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection. The exhibition makes the second stop on its U.S. tour at Johns Hopkins University's Milton S. Eisenhower Library, March 28 through May 1, 2019.
The Center for Innovation, Research and Creativity in the Arts (CIRCA) presents artist Brooke Singer. Reception to follow her presentation.
This 90-minute program of art song for piano and voice, presented by soprano Laura Choi Stuart and pianist Joy Schreier, explores the mystery and delight of sleeping and dreaming, and spans the breadth of art song repertoire from three centuries and six languages. Stuart will guide the performance with notes delivered from the stage as the program explores musical interpretations of sleep by composers including Handel, Strauss, Schubert, Fauré, and Rachmaninov.
The Green Terror Battalion Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC), one of the oldest ROTC programs in the nation, celebrates its 100th anniversary with a special event featuring a performance by the U.S. Army Band. In addition to McDaniel College, the Green Terror Battalion includes cadets from Hood College and Mount St. Mary’s University.

Founded in 2004 by artistic director Richard Scerbo, Inscape Chamber Orchestra is pushing the boundaries of classical music in riveting performances that reach across genres and generations, and transcend the confines of the traditional classical concert experience.
Pianist Kathryn Brake and violinist Claudia Chudacoff present a program of works featuring Mozart‘s Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major, K. 305; Bach‘s Partita #3 in E Major for violin solo, BWV 1006; Eugene Ysaye‘s Sonata No. 2 for solo violin in A Minor, Op. 27, No. 2; and the Beethoven‘s Sonata in A Major, Op. 47, (the “Kreutzer”).
The Department of Dance presents the Senior Dance Concert, featuring new works that explore the past, present, and future of the human experience through elaborate and exciting movement.

Candlelight Concert Society presents the East Coast Chamber Orchestra in an ancient walkabout through the glories of early music (Purcell, Bach) and its more modern echoes (Britten, Andean connections). The program will feature:

McDaniel College students compete for a $10,000 top prize in this annual competition put on by the college’s The Encompass Distinction program in innovation and entrepreneurship. Finalists present their entrepreneurial ideas and products to a panel of experts. The Strata ensemble, featuring clarinetist Nathan Williams, violinist James Stern, and pianist Audrey Andrist, presents a program entitled Riddles and Mirages, including works by American composers Paul Schoenfield, Margaret Brouwer, Libby Larsen, and works composed for Strata by Robert Maggio(Riddle) and Jonathan Leshnoff (Seven Glances at a Mirage).
Christine H. Fox, assistant director for policy and analysis of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, in Laurel, Maryland, will present a community talk on Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. at Howard Community College. Free and open to the public, her talk, “More to Math: From Education to Real-World Application,” will take place in the college’s Smith Theatre, located in the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, MD.
