Brazilian-born brothers Sérgio and Odair Assad have created a new standard of guitar innovation, ingenuity and expression. Their exceptional artistry and uncanny ensemble-playing rooted in a family rich in Brazilian musical tradition and studies under guitarist/lutenist Monina Távora, a disciple of Andrés Segovia. Their virtuosity has inspired a wide range of composers to write for them including Astor Piazzolla, Terry Riley, Radamés Gnattali, Marlos Nobre, Nikita Koshkin, Roland Dyens, Jorge Morel, Edino Krieger, and Francisco Mignone.

A New Woyzeck is erected as a pea-eating cam girl for the 21st century using puppetry, projection, and pop music. A high intensity trip through expressionism and indie sleaze, this performance explores the depths of surveillance, power and who holds it.
Join us at Gallery 1448 for the opening reception of Joe Germershausen: Interruptions. This series of twenty paintings continues to explore what has fascinated the artist for the past seventy years: the lines, colors, shapes, and textures encountered in his everyday existence.
With their “polished sonority and well-balanced, tightly synchronized ensemble” (Chicago Classical Review), the young Isidore Quartet has swiftly soared to prominence, winning the 2022 Banff Competition and a 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant. Now, they present a new work written for them by foremost American composer and Grammy-winning jazz pianist Billy Childs. Jeremy Denk, “a pianist you want to hear no matter what he performs” (The New York Times) joins them for Schumann’s expansive Piano Quintet.
