Maryland Art Place is pleased to present Children of War by Michael Fischerkeller at Hotel Indigo.
Traveling from their home in Southern California, Jack & the Vox return to Baltimore for one night, on their way to the CT Ukulele Festival and then Europe! The husband-wife-duo, met at the Berklee College of Music in 1998 (where they both studied Songwriting), but only recently married in 2016. Victoria Vox, who was a Baltimore resident for 11 years, is an award-winning songwriter known for toting her ukulele around the world at festivals, clubs, and performing house concerts. Jack has childhood roots to St. Louis, but grew up in California since a young teen.
Inspired by works in the Walters’ collection of rare books and manuscripts, Baltimore artist Alex D’Agostino presents a performance blending folk magic, art, and queer history that is part séance and part dance. This interactive work presents a newly created manuscript of queer history and methods, and explores artifacts, history, and collective memory.

The Baltimore Japan Art Festival (BJAF) takes place Sept. 28-29 at several venues located around the Station North Arts District of Baltimore, MD. The programming will showcase Japanese culture through traditional and contemporary art, film, music and food, targeting an audience of students, residents and cultural supporters in the Baltimore area. The festival aims to provide a platform for Japanese artists and cultural experts to expand American audiences' perceptions of Japan and build interest in Japanese culture.

Presented by Nippon Motion, MICA & the Baltimore Kawasaki Sister City Committee, the 2018 BJAF will showcase Japanese culture through traditional and contemporary art, film, music and food, targeting an audience of students, residents and cultural supporters in the Baltimore area.
The Baltimore Book Festival features hundreds of appearances by local, celebrity and nationally known authors, book signings, more than 100 exhibitors and booksellers, nonstop readings on multiple stages, cooking demos by top chefs, poetry readings, workshops, panel discussions, storytellers and hands-on projects for kids, live music, and a thoughtfully curated food, craft beer, and wine program.
Gina Adams comes to MICA to talk about her hybrid social-political activism artwork and practice. She will speak about the Broken Treaty Quilts, their history and the Open Letter Cutting sessions, a project she just started while in her Dartmouth College Residency.

What happens when Hip-Hop producers and MCs collide to showcase their talents?
B'More Beat Club is a live Hip-Hop event where any MC and producer can play beats. But they HAVE TO BE DOPE. Hip-Hop, spoken word and poetry are welcome. The remaining time belongs to the notable featured producers & DJs.
Congratulate the juried artists in the 4th Annual Harford Plein Air Festival sponsored by the Maryland Center for the Arts on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 7pm-10pm, at the Bel Air Armory, and have the first opportunity to view and purchase their work at a reception prior to the public sale. The $35 ticket price counts toward painting purchase. Light refreshments served. Thirty juried artists from all over the U.S. will paint "en plein air" (outdoors) in familiar locations in Harford County during the week of September 24, 2018.
The Harford Plein Air Festival Collectors' Preview Party is an annual outdoor painting competition and gallery sale presented by the Maryland Center for the Arts. The Collectors' Preview Party will be held Friday, September 28, 7:00-10:00pm at the Bel Air Armory in downtown Bel Air, Maryland. Guests will get to meet the juried artists participating in Harford Plein Air, see the paintings created of outdoor locations in Harford County, and will get to see which paintings win awards from art judge, Michael Skalka, Conservation Director at the National Gallery of Art.

Enjoy Mozart's Don Giovanni in an intimate concert setting with Baltimore Concert Opera at the Garrett Jacobs Mansion of the Engineers Club. A particularly relevant opera for the Me Too movement, Don Giovanni demonstrates that a rake must ultimately pay for his misdeeds. At the same time, Don Giovanni features some of Mozart's most glorious music and is a fitting way to inaugurate BCO's tenth season. Performances are Friday, September 28th, at 7:30pm and Sunday, September 30th, at 3pm. Join us for a pre-show lecture thirty minutes before each performance.
