Columbia Pro Cantare celebrates the anniversaries of three Howard County treasures with a concert that highlights the special connection between the chorus and Columbia’s founder, James Rouse (1914-1996). Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait is one of the featured works on the program, which was narrated by Mr. Rouse in a CPC performance at Merriweather Post Pavilion celebrating Columbia's 20th birthday in 1987. The May 14 concert will also include Tom Benjamin’s I Build a House, commissioned by the chorus in honor of Mr.

The UMBC Department of Music Honors Showcase is a culmination of students’ work in the areas of solo performance, chamber ensemble performance, and composition.

Admission is free. Free parking is available immediately adjacent to the Performing Arts and Humanities Building in Lot 8.
Join us every third Wednesday at the Cabaret at Germano's for Baltimore's Best Open Mic Night. Dinner is served beginning at 6:00. Sign-up is at 7:00 and the music begins at 7:30. Please purchase tickets in advance online or by phone to allow us to serve you comfortably. $10 cover for all in attendance.

In celebration of the running of the 142nd Preakness, Lexington Market will host its first-ever Crab Race Festival outdoors adjacent to the Lexington Market Arcade (between Eutaw and North Paca Streets.) The happy hour event pays tribute to the historic Crab Derby, held annually at the Market in advance of The Preakness. Food from Faidley’s Seafood and other iconic Market vendors will be available along with local craft brews and specialty cocktails. Live music by The Kelly Bell Band and a Kids Zone full of games, crafts, and other activities will provide fun for the entire family.

Through the first half of the 1980s, The Charm City Reactors were a staple of the just-blossoming alternative music scene in Baltimore. A regular act at the storied Marble Bar, their music contrasted from the typical punk-rock found there, instead pursuing a melodic, reggae-rock-infused sound. A jam band before the term existed, their improvisational approach to their own material as well to an eclectic choice of cover tunes garnered them a devoted following, and positive reviews in the local press.
