Combining improvised Arabic operatic singing, drones, electromagnetic microphones, string instruments, and contemporary dance, “We Shall Not Inherit the Earth” explores the parallels between US funded surveillance as a tool of violence and western classical music. The performance fluctuates between rigid sonic ‘control’ and wild experimental sounds. The dynamic between conductor, performer, and sheet music serves as a metaphor for the police state, while coil pickup microphones capture sounds from destroyed surveillance apparatuses.

LUNCH WITH SONIA is a dance puppet theatre piece, inspired by Restrepo’s true-life experience with his Aunt Sonia, who decided to end her life with dignity after a long illness at the age of 72. The show uses puppets, live actors, music, video and physical theatre to deal with the themes of life, love, and loss.
UMBC's Department of Music presents the UMBC Gamelan Ensemble under the direction of Michelle Purdy.
The ensemble performs on a central Javanese gamelan, a gong-chime orchestra of Indonesia. Although most of the instruments of the gamelan are made of bronze, the ensemble also includes drums, xylophones, bamboo flutes, and plucked and bowed string instruments.

David and Letitia met when they were roommates in a group house of musicians, and they have collaborated ever since, traveling across the US and UK. With this album they strip back from the full band to share their organic sound, just two voices and two guitars.

The Department of Music presents the UMBC Camerata under the direction of Lulu Mwangi. A small choral ensemble consisting of auditioned singers from across the university. Camerata performs a wide variety of works drawn from the expansive choral repertoire: including Renaissance motets and madrigals, folksongs, German part songs, Russian sacred liturgies, American spirituals, and new American concert works.
