Practice your cursive writing loops, swirls, and basic strokes as we learn how to read historical documents written by Marylanders. Using chalk, ink, quills and paint, participants will be engaged in local history while learning or perfecting this lost art. Museum admission and drop-in FREE. Program is for ages 5-14. Join the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts as we celebrate the life of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a parade featuring community-based civic organizations, community and high school bands, colorful cheer and dance squads, military units, equestrian groups and decorative floats.

The parade steps off at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Eutaw Street, proceeds south on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and disbands at Baltimore Street.

Mayor Catherine E. Pugh and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts celebrates the 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. The parade commemorates the life of civil rights leader and icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. More than 70 groups participate in the parade including high school and community bands, honor/color guards, equestrian units, fraternities & sororities, lively dance squads and civic organizations. The parade steps off at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr.

On My Sisters’ Shoulders” is the compelling story of the Mississippi Civil Rights movement from the point of view of its remarkable and courageous women who changed the course of history.

Roxane Gay, a critically acclaimed author, will speak at Loyola University Maryland’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Convocation on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, at 7 p.m. in McGuire Hall.

In her lecture, “Roxane Gay With One N,” the author will discuss social issues as it relates to her ongoing work in feminism, body image, and social justice. A book signing will follow the lecture. The information sessions are designed to give anyone interested in submitting a proposal or application for Artscape, Baltimore Book Festival and Light City an opportunity to learn more about the festivals, hear more about the requirements and ask questions about the application process. Additionally, the sessions provide a chance for artists, businesspersons and community members to meet potential collaborators, network with BOPA staff and hear about locations in the festival footprints that may offer inspiration for proposals and applications.
