Music and theatre arts students at McDaniel from the “Singing on Stage” class taught by Kyle Engler, senior lecturer in music, perform selections from renowned operas and Broadway musicals.
Come join our new weekly jam session, every Sunday at 7pm, in the downstairs bar at Germano's! Mike 'n' Ike will provide the house rhythm section, while Germano's provides a fabulous bar featuring everything from fresh carrot juice to old whiskey, plus fantastic food,, all in a comfortable bar in the heart of Little Italy. Come join host Ian Rashkin (bass) and the rest of the rhythm section to play your favorite jazz standards, and not-so-standards; all instruments and vocalists welcome.
The UMBC Symphony Orchestra performs under the direction of E. Michael Richards, featuring the Trio des Alpes in the Concertino for Piano, Violin, Cello, and String Orchestra by Bohuslav Martinu. (The Trio des Alpes will also present an ensemble concert on Friday, May 3, with additional information here.)
Admission is free but a ticket required for entry. Please note that additional day-of-performance tickets will be available at the door only as space permits. (Tickets will be available online beginning April 5)

This annual concert features The Madrigal Singers, McDaniel’s premier a cappella vocal ensemble, under the direction of Margaret Boudreaux, director of choral activities at McDaniel. The Madrigal Singers perform unaccompanied vocal music, primarily Renaissance pieces, but also world music and vocal jazz. Audience participation is encouraged on several pieces.
The UMBC Wind Ensemble, directed by Brian Kaufman, has celebrated performances with internationally celebrated guest artists including Glee pianist and music director Brad Ellis, Emmy-nominated composer and genre-bending violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain, The American Brass Quintet, Canadian Brass veteran Joe Burgstaller, international tuba artist Øystein Baadsvik, Cleveland Orchestra trombonist Shachar Israel, Marine Band co-principal oboe Trevor Mowry, former Marine Band clarinetist Randall Riffle, and UMBC Professor of Violin Airi Yoshioka.

Wednesday, May 8, WTMD and the non-profit Arts Every Day are partnering to present the 2019 Music Ed Remix, which brings together Baltimore musicians with instrumental and vocal music education programs in Baltimore City Public Schools to create unique arrangements over the course of a year-long collaboration.
Directed by music lecturer Tim Jenkins, the concert features diverse styles of jazz, including classic big band swing, bebop, Latin, Funk, Jazz-rock and classic blues.
The renowned Israeli ensemble performs a radical array of Jewish Fusion, Jazz, Middle Eastern and Israeli roots music that crosses the borders of language, region, and political beliefs, and draws audiences together.
The Department of Music presents the UMBC Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Tom Goldstein. The UMBC Percussion Ensemble is a dedicated performing group of advanced percussion students. The ensemble is adventurous in its programming, with a repertoire that includes graphic-notation pieces, improvisational works, and theatre, as well as works by important early percussion composers, such as Alan Hovhaness, John Cage, and Carlos Chavez.
Mariah was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 15th, the third of six children. Her family later moved to France where she studied ballet in Paris with Jennifer Goubé of the Opera de Paris and also began acting classes at the Cours Florent. When she was just 14, she was approached by a model scout on the Champs Elysées and has since appeared in campaigns and magazines worldwide.
Charm City Bronze Handbell Ensemble presents 2019 RING IN THE SPRING on Friday, May 10th at 7 p.m. in the beautiful sanctaury at Cambridge School (6200 N Charles St - formerly Brown Memorial Woodbrook Presbyterian Church). This unique event will feature a WORLD PREMIERE arrangemnt for bells of Beethoven's 5th Symphony (1st movement) as well as Chinese & Estonian folk songs, and the music of Bach, Vivladi & Mozart. A free will offering will be received. Suggested contribution $10 per person / $20 per family.
Directed by Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer in music, the College Band performs musical selections chosen by members of the band. The McDaniel College Band features nearly 50 musicians, including McDaniel students, as well as McDaniel faculty members, band alumni and community musicians, performing everything from classical to pops.
The Department of Music presents the UMBC Opera Workshop under the direction of Sammy Huh. Created to provide students the opportunity to study acting and musical performance through opera, the UMBC Opera Workshop annually performs major scenes from notable operas. Previous performances have included The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, Così Fan Tutte, The Merry Widow, and Romeó et Juliette.

Enjoy an evening of eclectic music making, hosted by Troy Koger. Accompanied by the "Terry Koger Quartet', the evening will feature a wide variety of music of the jazz, soul, and pop genres.
Swing Set is celebrating Mother's Day in style, bringing a lively, modern take on the music of the '30s and '40s, as well as musical excursions to Italy, France, and Argentina. Mandolinist Joel Michael-Schwartz and his guests, Shurmi Dar (vocals) and Todd Shelar (guitar), have a special program of beloved classics and little known gems, each chosen to celebrate mom. Enjoy Germano's wonderful brunch at the Cabaret while some of Baltimore's best bring in their favorite tunes.
