The dynamic father-son team Ken & Brad Kolodner weave together a captivating soundscape on hammered dulcimer, banjo, gourd banjo, hammered mbira, fiddles and vocals pushing the boundaries of the American Old-Time tradition into uncharted territory. The repertoire is largely drawn from what is known today by practitioners of “old-time” which is a style of North American music that preceded Bluegrass, dating back several centuries with strong African and Celtic roots. In addition to originals written in the style, expect some surprises!
We celebrate Jason Love's 20th year with the Orchestra with one of his favorite works, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, which he led at his inaugural concert in 1999. In a very special event, Jason is the soloist for the U.S. Premiere of a virtuosic cello concerto by Guillaume Connesson, one of classical music's most acclaimed rising stars. And, nothing starts a celebration better than a fanfare and Joan Tower's Second Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman features our marvelous brass and percussion.
Free pre-concert lecture at 6:30pm in the Wilde Lake Mini Theatre.
“… Its shimmering tone, seductive timbre and a particularly emotional approach to phrasing lead one to want to hear it again.”

WSaxQ is the most widely heard saxophone quartet in the United States. Since 1997, recorded arrangements by the Washington Saxophone Quartet have aired daily throughout the United States on NPR’s broadcasts of “All Things Considered.” Concert audiences enjoy their connection to WSaxQ when they discover they’ve been listening to the quartet’s music during afternoon “drive-time.” And it often comes as a surprise that they’ve been hearing four saxophones!
We’re not talking tennis. We’re talking Love! Yes, 3 short sets of music;
2 vocal and 1 piano. Evan Alexander and John C. Wilson will each perform a set of love songs — from Broadway and the Great American Songbook. Felicia Clarke and Robert Hitz will perform a set of original piano music, plus a real treat – dueling piano frivolity. We’re very excited to be back with a new program. Join us for brunch and some beautiful music you will love.
