A highlight of each semester is the performance by the creative and innovative TU Jazz Faculty Ensemble. The group includes John Lee on guitar; Dave Ballou on trumpet; Jim McFalls on trombone; Jason Rigby on saxophones; Eric Kennedy and Mike Kuhl on drums and cymbals; Jeff Reed on bass, and Savino Palumbo on piano. Bach’s “St. John Passion” (BWV 245) is a profound oratorio composed in 1724. It dramatizes the events of Christ’s crucifixion, blending chorales, recitatives, arias, and choruses. Known for its emotional depth and intricate musical architecture, the work vividly portrays the Passion narrative from the Gospel of John. Bach’s masterful use of vocal and instrumental forces creates a powerful spiritual and dramatic experience, making the “St. John Passion” a cornerstone of the choral and sacred music repertoire.
