Acclaimed for his "enthralling interpretive integrity" by The Guardian, Polish-Hungarian pianist Piotr Anderszewski performs Beethoven's epic Diabelli Variations. He is long associated with the revered work, with Gramophone calling his recording "the most intelligent, searching and delightful account of the Diabelli Variations to have reached us since Brendel’s.”
Celebrate the end of winter with an hour of gorgeous songs about love, nature, and the joy that comes with spring. Works by Rossini, Debussy, Grieg, Strauss, Beach, Rachmaninoff, and more will be performed by sopranos Claire Galloway and Ellie Yeonjung Kim, tenor Min Jin, baritone Rob McGinness, and pianist Joseph Satava. A wine reception with the artists will follow the performance. Seating is not reserved and tickets will also be available at the door.

Mind on Fire is playing a living set of musical kinetics. Composer Chris Dietz’s ‘Contretemps’ features the orchestra divided against itself. Sky Macklay’s ‘Microvariations’ is a codex of rainbow-colored landings in two tuning systems. And we’ll be debuting a brand new work by local sound hero Jamal Moore.

Happenstance Theatre

The Happenstance quintet delves into Ancient Greek Mythology with guest artist Craig Jaster generating a live musical score.
The Orchestre d’Harmonie de Saint-Omer will present a concert April 12, 7 p.m., at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore to celebrate 300 years of Franco-American cooperation and history.
The orchestra comes from the region of Saint-Omer, in northern France, where Archbishop John Carroll, first bishop of Baltimore and the first Catholic bishop in the United States, attended the School of the English Jesuits when he was a boy.

Considered by many to be the greatest play ever written, Hamlet is everything Shakespeare wrote distilled to a single play. Funny, thrilling, and heartbreaking, Hamlet is a tour de force. It has represented many things to many people, and stands as shorthand for “Theatre.” Strip away the pretense, though, and what’s left is still a masterpiece. We present it in original pronunciation, as audiences first heard it.
Children’s Chorus of Maryland & School of Music holds their annual Open House & Music Class Demonstration Day on Saturday, April 13th from 8am to 1pm. Parents, children (5 1/2 and older) and teachers can drop in throughout the day to observe music classes, talk to staff and enjoy refreshments. Teachers may choose to observe any of the classes during the morning. Parents may want to observe a class with students near the age of their own children. Maryland Center for the Arts & Music Land present BSO cellist Bo Li, who will coach up to 4 students on a solo piece of their choice. All experience levels are welcome, elementary through high school. Students should bring their own instrument and their music. After the master class, Mr. Li will perform a brief, 30-minute concert. Teachers, parents, friends, and family are welcome to observe the master class and concert. The Hunt Valley Wind Ensemble’s Spring Concert will celebrate “A Night at the Movies,” featuring a program of music from a span of popular motion pictures, from recent hits like “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “The Lord of the Rings” to classics like “The Magnificent Seven” and “2001: A Space Odyssey.” The concert will also feature a performance by the Hunt Valley Jazz Ensemble, with its own swinging take on movie soundtracks. The Ensemble, comprising more than 50 adult amateur musicians, is under the director of conductor Matthew T. Benner and assistant conductor Ryan Pilius.
The Baltimore Improv Group has improv comedy shows every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7, 8 & 9 p.m. All Thursday shows are free. Friday and Saturday shows are $10.
