Songwriter and guitarist Paul Margolis and accordionist John Shock have been playing music together for almost 30 years. Starting with Shock’s band Two Legs, then The Polkats, and now with The Stone Hill All-Stars, they have been at the helm of some of the best roots-rock bands in Baltimore. Their blend of cajun-flavored polka lies somewhere between Ry Cooder, Los Lobos, and The Pogues—plus polka. They swashbuckled through a dozen different kinds of traditional music all while retaining a distinct Baltimore flavor.

Jake has been playing in the DMV area for over 10 years with a variety of groups. He draws influences from many modern jazz players such as Pat Metheny, Gilad Hekselman, and Jonathan Kreisberg and his goal is to bring a fresh sound to the artform. Jake will be teaming up with 3 great musicians who bring their own perspectives to the table for an evening of jazz not to be missed!

The Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society rings in the new year with a concert by The Jonathan Kreisberg Quartet. Guitar virtuoso Kreisberg brings top-tier musicians to Baltimore to perform compelling jazz that combines timeless melodicism with forward thinking lines and textures. His style and approach to jazz have earned him a strong following of fans around the world. The Quartet also includes Martin Bejerano on piano, Matt Clohesy on bass, and Colin Stranahan on drums.
Grammy Award-winning violinist Midori teams up with renowned pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday year with a program of his radiant violin sonatas. Experience her “characteristic verve, fire, and tonal gleam” (Chicago Classical Review) and his “great energy, brilliant technique, unassailable artistry” (The Plain Dealer, Cleveland) in this highly-anticipated return.

The dynamic father-son team Ken & Brad Kolodner weave together a captivating soundscape on hammered dulcimer, banjo, gourd banjo, hammered mbira, fiddles and vocals pushing the boundaries of the American Old-Time tradition into uncharted territory. The repertoire is largely drawn from what is known today by practitioners of “old-time” which is a style of North American music that preceded Bluegrass, dating back several centuries with strong African and Celtic roots. In addition to originals written in the style, expect some surprises!
Local, award winning classical guitarist Andrew Oswinkle, will be presenting a dynamic set of classical guitar favorites along with some lesser-known modern gems at the Cabaret. Andrew is currently finishing his Masters degree at Peabody Conservatory in Classical Guitar Performance under scholarship and recently placed as a finalist in the Philadelphia classical guitar competition in his first year trying his hand at competing.
With the rare beauty of her tone and and her enchanting presence on stage, Russian guitarist Irina Kulikova catches the hearts of audiences across the globe. She belongs to that class of musicians that tell something pure and special with their instrument in a seemingly effortless flow. Indie-folk songwriter Annette Wasilik has been writing songs ever since she found a Sears Silvertone abandoned in a tin wardrobe in the family basement. She was 14 at the time and very shy but eventually starting performing in with friends in local venues, bars and festivals. Later when her daughter was born, Annette turned her focus to her massage practice and caring for the family. When she was again able to turn her full attention to her music, she dug in with all she had.
Award-winning vocalist, Marianne Matheny-Katz, presents her ongoing and evolving Joni Mitchell project with the select band that she has been collaborating with since its inception. Some of the arrangements have been developed by pianist Alan Blackman and others have been created by the entire ensemble over the years. The band expects to record the material in 2020.
