Laura Kaminsky’s As One is a chamber opera in which two voices—Hannah after and Hannah before— share the part of a sole transgender protagonist in a poignant coming-of-age story with a universal theme of identity, authenticity, and compassion. This production is performed in honor of Transgender Awareness month.

Marin Alsop explores Copland's Third Symphony, featuring his famous Fanfare for the Common Man. This grand victory symphony, summing up the American experience of World War II, was written for the largest orchestra Copland ever used.
This 90-minute Off The Cuff concert provides more insight into a single work, followed by a question-and-answer session.
Returning for its 6th season, Christmas Village in Baltimore will once again transform West Shore Park at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor into an authentic German Christmas market! Kicking off the season with the NEW preview weekend (November 17th - November 18th), the event will continue running from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve (November 22nd – December 24th, 2018). The basis of our melodies originated 2500 years ago in Athens, Greece, and the construction of the scales in its original form has been preserved in India. This concert will be a demonstration of works that illustrate these concepts.

Rogue Oliphant is a loose affiliation of musicians and composers who work on songs and spoken word pieces written by the Pulitzer Prize winning Irish poet Paul Muldoon.
Margaret Boudreaux, director of choral activities at McDaniel, leads the Masterworks Chorale, with McDaniel College organist Ted Dix as accompanist. The concert commemorates the 100th anniversary of the armistice ending World War I with the world premiere of “Te Deum,” composed by 2009 McDaniel alumna Justine Koontz.

Jonathan Palevsky livens this bass-focused concert with his always entertaining, annotated narration. Bass player William McGregor, the eighteen-year-old winner of 2017 Stulberg International String Competition Gold Medal, brings his virtuosity to the 18th-century concerto by Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf and to Moses Variations by Niccolò Paganini.

The Department of Music presents a Student Composers Workshop, featuring premieres of new compositions.

Masterworks Chorale presents Te Deum on Sunday, November 18 at 3 p.m. in McDaniel College’s (Big) Baker Chapel. The concert, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the WWI Armistice, features the premiere of Justine Koontz’s Te Deum along with works by Handel and Britten.
Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man is featured prominently in the finale of his Third Symphony. Composer Andrew Norman's Gran Turismo, inspired by the Italian car-racing video game, is a workout for eight violinists. Influenced by the Academy Award-winning film, Kevin Puts' Oboe Concerto, "Moonlight," a BSO commission, shines the spotlight on Principal Oboe Katherine Needleman.
John William Coltrane was a major innovator in the world of Jazz. His associations with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk laid the foundation for his monumental impact throughout the world. Although he only lived to the age of 40 years, his technique on the tenor and soprano saxophone, as well as his compositions, are still being learned by every serious jazz musician to this day. In the traditional organ trio setting (organ, guitar, drums) we will explore a few of Mr. Coltrane's compositions.
