Mount Vernon began as a country estate for Revolutionary War hero John Eager Howard and grew to be the place to live for Baltimore's rich and famous in the mid-nineteenth century. The Garrett family, owners of the B&O Railroad, the Walters, founders of the Walters Art Museum, and the Thomases, owners of Mercantile Bank, are among the families that built handsome mansions along the four parks that surround the Washington Monument.

Centered on the work of community organizer Shirley Foulks and directed by Youth Resiliency Institute founder Fanon Hill, Lom Nava Love documents Foulks’ engagement with families in public housing and how she uses art to communicate the abilities, strengths and power to effect change that black families innately possess. A post discussion with Mr. Hill and Ms. Foulks will follow the screening.

Through simple, fun and supportive games, participants will explore basic concepts like playfulness, listening and agreement – all in a safe and comfortable group setting geared specifically toward those who are new to improv.

2019 marks the 40th anniversary of Insect Surfers, “planet Earth’s longest running modern surf band!”
Originally formed in the summer of 1979 in Washington, D.C. -- after guitarist David Arnson envisioned a new surf band for the modern era that combined elements of psychedelic rock, 60s instrumentals and punk rock energy -- they toured extensively throughout the US and released 2 EPs (Wavelength, Sonar Safari) and 3 singles that placed as high as #25 on the national college radio charts.
Saving Washington: The Forgotten Story of the Maryland 400 and The Battle of Brooklyn blends real-life historical figures and events with richly developed fictional characters. On a marshy Brooklyn battlefield on August 27, 1776, four hundred men from Baltimore, Maryland assembled to do battle against a vastly superior British army.

Adam Stab is Baltimore’s longest-active graffiti writer. He has been both participant and formative to the culture of Style Writing since 1984. Since the mid-eighties the movement of style writing (or graffiti writing) has become the largest, fastest growing art form – or rather culture – on the planet.
Consistently ranked one of the most beautiful Libraries in the world, the George Peabody Library has been called a “Cathedral of Books.” This performance will celebrate not only the collections of the Library, but the breathtaking building itself. Using architecture as inspiration, Baltimore’s Ann Street Trio will explore the connections between architecture, music, and visual art.
Artifacts from the planning and engineering of the Library will be on display for the first time. Plus, architectural elements not visible since 1980 will be (literally) uncovered!
