TU composition students have written pieces for Whistling Hens, a duo comprised of TU clarinet professor Natalie Groom and soprano Jennifer Piazza-Pick. Whistling Hens will perform the student works and provide feedback from the performer perspective. Guest composer Sonia Morales-Matos will provide feedback from the composer perspective.

Award-winning author and journalist Dara Horn will present, “In the Haunted Present: Dara Horn’s Dream for Living Jews.”

Horn – who has addressed audiences in hundreds of venues throughout North America, Israel and Australia – will discuss Jewish life in America post Oct. 7, 2023: particularly the rise of antisemitism. The talk will tie in with her book: People Love Dead Jews: Reports from a Haunted Present.

Sonia Ivette Morales-Matos is a Puerto Rican composer, performer, and educator who belongs to a family of distinguished musicians. Her compositions explore a wide variety of styles and genres such as chamber music, the concerto, choral music, Latin Jazz, pop, sacred and/or contemporary Christian, and Latin or Tropical music.

In this hour-long lecture, Bahman Panahi delves into the unique concept of Musicalligraphy—an innovative exploration of the intersection between calligraphy and music. Drawing from years of research and practice, Panahi presents how these two disciplines, seemingly distinct, converge, through shared principles of rhythm, harmony, gesture, expression and history.

Join with other like-minded people and celebrate the 46th anniversary of the Annual Saturday with Sherlock Holmes at the Pratt Library Central Library (400 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201), Wheeler Auditorium. The game is afoot, once again, as seven Sherlockians will give dynamic presentations on various aspects of the Sherlock Holmes stories. The theme is Our Favorite Parts of the Canon. As always, the program is free! There will be coffee and bagels from 10:30 – 11:30 in the corridor adjacent to the auditorium.
