George Colligan, a Maryland native and Peabody graduate, went on to become an in demand side person and recording artist in New York. He has hundreds of recording credits as a collaborator and bandleader. Also a well known educator, he is a full professor at Portland State University.

BELOW THE SURFACE: Percussion & Light Art Performance

The immersive, hour-long performance of percussion music and responsive light-box art that is “Below the Surface” combines the creativity of Farida Hughes and Matt Keown. Their signature project represents the true spirit of collaboration as the two artists bring their respective disciplines together to create a dialogue between art and music. Sixteen perforated paper drawings made by Hughes on a lava field in Hawai’i show visible tracings of the paths of arrested volcanic activity.

French guitarist Gabriel Bianco is one of the most active guitarists of his generation. He began studying the guitar with his father at age 5 and later graduated from the Paris National Conservatory. Gabriel has won First Prize in some of the most prestigious international competitions, such as the “Guitar Foundation of America,” “Andrés Segovia” in Spain, “Hubert Kappel” in Koblenz, Germany, and “Guitarre Forum Wien” in Austria.
First there was Chaos…swirling, random sounds, then suddenly, in one of the most astonishing musical explosions, there was Light!
A collaboration between Ballet Theatre of Maryland and Full Circle Dance Company, combining the grounded power of modern dance with the soaring sweep of ballet to engage your mind and move your spirit.
The Grammy-nominated Dover Quartet returns to Shriver Hall, joined by formidable pianist Michelle Cann, who brings her “enormous, rich sound” and “joyous, lit-from-within energy” (La Scena Musicale) to this intimate setting. Together they present one of the pinnacles of the chamber music repertoire: Dvořák’s colorful, folk-inflected quintet. Expansive sounds from American composers open the program.
