In this 6-Week class you will experience the passion and the fierceness of Merengue, one of the international symbols of the Caribbean and Latin American dances. Throughout the class we will work together as a group to bring out the best in each other and connect with the roots of this cultural dance style. This course is going to consist of a weekly 2 hour class from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday’s and finalizing with the closing act of an optional Performance at the Creative Alliance at The Patterson.

Nobody does honky-tonk country like Arty Hill, a killer Baltimore singer and songwriter who fronts the Long Gone Daddys, a band of true honky tonk heroes known for packing dance floors until late in the night. Don’t forget your boots, the dance floor will be open!

The Maryland Center for the Arts, in cooperation with the Westminster Preservation Trust, presents Edgar Allan Poe's 210th Birthday Celebration at Westminster Hall in Baltimore, on January 19, 2019, at 3:00pm and 5:30pm. Admission is $10 in advance, with ticket proceeds supporting the nonprofit mission of the Maryland Center for the Arts to build and operate a center to provide the region with enhanced access to quality spaces to present, exhibit, and participate in the arts. The Collective, Baltimore's hub for dancers and choreographers, hosts The Community Project 2019 as an open-call, community-based workshop where participants engage in an creative process led by a professional choreographer from The Collective to prepare for a public performance. Participants of all dance backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to participate. The project will consist of three rehearsals/workshops in order to learn and develop movement for the final performance as a part of Baltimore Dance Invitational at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts.

HoCoPoLitSo’s guest for its annual Irish Evening is the award-winning poet Vona Groarke, recipient of the 2017 Hennessy Hall of Fame Award for Lifetime Achievement. Groarke’s most recent collection, Selected Poems, won the 2017 Pigott Prize for the best collection of poetry by an Irish poet. Noted as "brilliant and original" by the Irish Times, Groarke writes haunting and candidly sensual poems.
