Make Studio presents the two-person exhibition The Fervent Thread (A Fantastic Voyage), bringing together textile-based works by guest artists Sam Barsky and Andy DeDominici (exhibiting as The Ray Wells Orchestra). The artists materially and thematically delve into concepts of literal and meta-physical journeys as vehicles for understanding and communicating their personal identities and experiences. Sam Barsky is a local fiber artist living in Baltimore who is well-known for his landmark-inspired knitwear (and subsequent selfies in front of those landmarks while wearing them). His sweaters have been on view in numerous galleries and at the American Visionary Arts Museum. The Ray Wells Orchestra is an Ohio-based artist whose illustrative embroidery combines stream-of–consciousness text, and scripture with imagery from Christian Mysticism, as well as the occasional U.F.O. The insightful artwork in The Fervent Thread (A Fantastic Voyage) explores diverse artists’ pursuits that ultimately anchor their place in this world. Opening to the public on Friday, November 8th from 6-8pm, the show runs through Friday, November 29th at the Showroom Gallery in the Schwing Art Center, 3326 Keswick Rd. Baltimore, MD. The show is open to visitors during Make Studio’s usual weekday hours or by appointment.
