The History Behind Hamilton: from Battlefield to Broadway

The History Behind Hamilton: from Battlefield to Broadway

Talk with Mary Blair and Burt Kummerow
Presented by Maryland’s Four Centuries Project

The star of the award-winning play was a real man! Join us for an engaging discussion about Hamilton’s amazing and unusual life story. Several historians pose some key issues of the time that the hit play also features. How strongly was Hamilton linked to Washington? Was Hamilton an abolitionist? Why were so many rebels desperate to get active military experience?

What was happening after the Revolutionary War that forged Hamilton’s beliefs? Why was the new constitution seen as a “mess”? How did Hamilton’s ideas for the new government differ from Jefferson’s? What were his plans for the national bank?

These were complicated times, almost as messy as our own. Come hear about one man’s journey through and into the choas.

If you are going to see the play, this talk will make the politics and history much clearer!
