The Columbia Orchestra Summer Pops Concert

The Columbia Orchestra Summer Pops Concert

Join the Columbia Orchestra for its third annual Free Summer Pops Concert, and the first 2019 of the series free Community Concerts at the Chrysalis! Since 1977, the Columbia Orchestra has been "your community's music."

Now in its fourth decade, the orchestra continues to perform not only the masterworks of the classical repertoire but also works by today’s new generation of composers, including Tan Dun, Osvaldo Goliov, Joan Tower, Jonathan Leshnoff, Enrico Chapela, and others. The orchestra also continues its annual Young Artist Competition, its biannual American Composer Competition, and free chamber music series featuring members of the orchestra. In 2015, the orchestra performed its first commission, Andrew Earle Simpson’s score to accompany the silent film One Week; and in 2016 it partnered with Columbia Pro Cantare to perform Mahler’s magnificent Resurrection Symphony. The orchestra’s innovative programming led to Music Director Jason Love and the orchestra winning the third annual American Prize in Orchestral Programming in 2013.

Now in its third year, the annual Columbia Orchestra FREE Summer Pops Concert is a partnership between the Orchestra, the Trust, and a variety of community organizations to present the gift of music to Howard County as part of the Columbia Festival of the Arts in June.
