The Role of Photography in Social Movements Panel Discussion

The Role of Photography in Social Movements Panel Discussion

Saturday, May 18, 6-9pm (Doors open at 6:00; Panel discussion at 7:00)
Join us for a panel discussion featuring local photographers in conjunction with the "No Walls, No Bans, No Borders" exhibition at the Peale. Doors at 6pm, panel starts at 7pm.

"No Walls, No Bans, No Borders" is a benefit photography and art exhibit featuring the work of Baltimore-based activists connecting ideas of the violence of capitalism, colonialism, and the racist/fascist state both locally here in Baltimore and globally. A portion of artist's sales will go back to the groups doing the work on the ground.

The theme focuses on the work being done to dismantle walls/bans/borders of oppression, whether through physical state walls, walls of a prison, walls of stigma, or institutional walls. This exhibition tell the story through the eyes of those on the ground doing the work.

The event is being curated by Rebel Lens Bmore - a group of on-the-ground activists using photo and video to document social movements in Baltimore - in collaboration with a number of other great artists in Baltimore.

Speakers include:

Conrado Muluc is a multidisciplinary artist based in Alexandria, VA blending poetry, hip-hop, and photography for social change.

Rob Ferrell is a graphic designer, photographer, and an organizer with Black Leaders Organizing for Change. He recently founded Bmore Radical, a project that archives Black-led resistance from within the Movement for Black Lives.

Shae McCoy is a photojournalist and writer from Baltimore, and the founder of uncommonrealist.com – “a media source positively cultivating the minds of the public in not just the realest way but in a realist way.”

Ryan Harvey [host] is a musician, journalist, and activist from Baltimore County and a founder of Rebel Lens. Aside from his local work, he has documented the veterans’ anti-war movement, the refugee crisis in southern Europe, and various labor fights in the U.S.
