The Mark Kraemer Quartet

Mark Kraemer is an extraordinary musician, saxophonist, composer and recording artist, specializing in bebop, R&B and gospel styles. Mark’s sound and approach exemplifies his musical influences and life experiences. He plays alto, soprano and tenor saxophones, piano and wind controller. Mark comes from a family of accomplished musicians. His aunt taught him to play piano at age 6. His father taught him clarinet at age 7 and at 8 years of age he performed his first jazz piece with an upright bassist, piano and drummer. He attended Peabody Institute where he studied clarinet. He picked up the alto saxophone at age 12 and led his own group. At 15 he joined a popular show band with a 4 piece horn section and 5 vocalists. He played in various rock and roll bands in and around Baltimore. In Los Angeles, he studied saxophone with studio musician, Terry Harrington, and jazz theory and improvisation with vibraphonist and recording artist, Charlie Shoemaker. He moved back to Baltimore where he studied with saxophonist Gary Bartz. He has performed at Artscape, Blues Alley, Bohemian Caverns, and Sweet Lorraine in New Orleans, Baltimore Washington Jazz Festival, River Center Theater of the Performing Arts, Alys Robinson Theater Center, Birmingham Alabama, Brooklyn Exposure NYC, River Center in Baton Rouge, and the Gulf Coast Colosseum in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Tonight Mark performs with Mark Graham on bass, Phil Heiliger on piano and Lurenda Featberstone on drums. The repertoire will include Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Mike’s Davis, Herbie Hancock, Gary Bartz, Grover Washington, David Sanborn and some Kraemer originals.
