See it with Mixolo: The Diary of Anne Frank

Can't convince a plus-one? Don't opt out of this rare treat. Just go solo. See it with Mixolo on Thursday May 16, 2019. You can sit with us. #noplusonerequired

Anne Frank was a thoughtful young girl whose diary documenting her family’s life in hiding during the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam puts a poignant and human face on the unspeakable tragedy of her era. Playwright Wendy Kesselman’s new adaptation of Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett’s play, The Diary of Anne Frank (which won the 1956 Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, and Critics Circle Award), contains much of Anne’s original writing along with forthright explorations of her family’s Jewish faith.

The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company’s staging of The Diary of Anne Frank is part of its commitment to present classic works that appeal to audiences of all ages. The story of the Holocaust, says CSC Artistic Director Ian Gallaner, is one of the 20th century’s most crucial stories. “I take it to heart when people say how important it is to keep this story alive so people don’t forget,” he says.

ABOUT OUR HOST VENUE:

The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company Theater and cultural center, located near the Inner Harbor in Downtown Baltimore, opened in September 2014. This achievement was made possible with the support of devoted audiences and individual, corporate, philanthropic and governmental partners. CSC transformed a 19th Century landmark bank building into a modern 260-seat theater inspired by Shakespeare’s Globe. The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company (CSC) began in 2002 with a small group of artists committed to changing how people think about Shakespeare, by producing shows that allowed audiences to connect to classic works in whole new ways – ways that are fresh, innovative and sustainable.
